100 bikes built for Next Door at Brewers outreach event

The first day of summer brought a memorable and thrilling day for Next Door! On June 21st, we traveled to Miller Park where Brewers players, coaches and volunteers came together to build 100 bikes for our students. Some of our children were there to help in the building process and had a chance to “test drive” their new bicycles.

This program was part of the Brewers “Beyond the Diamond” community initiative, which features a series of hands-on outreach events during the season. The team focuses on serving non-profit organizations providing quality programming in the areas of health, education, recreation and basic needs.

The bike build event for Next Door took place along the warning track beside the field. Those supporting the effort included: most of the Brewers current roster, Manager Craig Counsell, the Brewers Wives, the Brewers Community Foundation, Master Lock and Impact 4 Good. Along with the bicycles, each child will receive a helmet and lock as part of this program. This generous donation arrived just in time for summer and will give many of our students their fist bike experience.

On June 30th, Next Door held a follow-up event at its Capitol Drive campus to distribute the bicycles to the 100 children and their families. The program featured pictures with each child and their new ride, a bicycle obstacle course, a station with bicycle safety information and an arts and crafts project where the children colored thank you notes for the Brewers and Master Lock.
