Journal Sentinel visits Next Door for 2018 On the Table program

Around 60 guests came to Next Door on Tuesday, October 9th to participate in important community conversations as part of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s On the Table program.

2018 marked the second year for the region-wide forum. The goal is to gather thousands of people around tables — big and small — to discuss various challenges facing our community and ideas and action steps to help conquer those issues.

Next Door hosted a breakfast and lunch gathering with guests seated at tables of around eight people. Our participants included city leaders, local journalists, Next Door donors, volunteers, parents and staff. The conversation focused on the critical role of high quality early childhood education in creating long-term, positive change for Milwaukee children living in poverty.

Before our guests left, they filled out a “Next Door On the Table Action Plan” and selected an option to help Next Door carry out its mission. The options included signing up for volunteer opportunities, holding a book drive and connecting friends or family to Next Door with an interest in early childhood education. Members of Next Door staff will follow up with the guests this fall.

A reporter with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel attended one of Next Door’s conversations and included her experience in an On the Table story for the newspaper. Click here to read more.
