Next Door part of Journal Sentinel report on Milwaukee’s growing investment in early childhood education

Next Door is included in a recent front page story from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, addressing the latest efforts in the city to provide high quality early childhood education for children living in high-need areas.

The story introduces readers to the Leading Men Fellows working at Next Door and other city schools for the 2018-2019 school year. These young African-American men are exploring careers in early childhood education through a program with The Literacy Lab based in Washington, D.C. All of the photos in the report feature fellows working with Next Door children.

In addition, the story highlights Next Door’s Early Childhood Scholars program, now in its second year in a partnership with Milwaukee Area Technical College. This initiative recruits and trains Next Door parents to become early childhood education teachers at Next Door and helps alleviate the pressures from the national teacher shortage.

We thank the Journal Sentinel for shedding light on this important topic for our city. Click here to read the story.
