We want to thank TMJ4 News and Scripps Howard Foundation for leading the “If You Give a Child a Book” campaign in support of Next Door’s Books for Kids program – a 30-year-old literacy program which helps students at Next Door and children in the community build their home libraries.

In celebration of National Reading Day in January, the station safely visited Next Door to help distribute books purchased through the campaign, which raised more than $21,000! The donations from the public and TMJ4 employees allowed Next Door to buy 4,232 new books, including much-needed board books, picture books and multicultural books. We would also like to thank Bank Five Nine, which offered a $5,000 matching gift to the campaign.

The station covered the campaign’s success and its visit to Next Door in a story on January 22, 2020.
